Four points, one moving frame

Not the whole body at once. A set of key points, re-read many times a second, so the software always knows where the body is.

Shoulders & hips The anchor points. Sleeve length, hem, and drape all get scaled and rotated from here.
Arms & elbows Tracked separately, so a sleeve bends where the elbow bends, not where still fabric would sit.
Legs & knees Used for full-body looks and stance, so a coat or trouser hem swings with the stride.
Every fraction of a second All the points are re-read many times a second, so the fit updates as fast as the body moves.

What is body tracking?

Body tracking is software that identifies key points on a person, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, from a live camera feed and follows how those points move in real time. Once the points are known, a digital garment, effect or overlay can be locked to them so it moves the way the person actually moves.

Is body tracking the same as face tracking?

No. Face tracking follows points on the face, eyes, nose, jawline, for filters and makeup try-on. Body tracking follows points across the whole body, shoulders to knees, which is what lets a jacket or a full outfit move correctly instead of just a filter sitting on your face.

Do I need to wear a special suit or markers for it to work?

No. Modern body tracking works from an ordinary camera feed, whether that is a phone camera or the camera built into an AR mirror. No suit, markers or sensors are needed, the software finds the joints directly from the video.

How accurate is body tracking?

Accurate enough to convincingly show fit and movement in real time, not accurate enough to guarantee an exact clothing size. It is built for visual try-on and engagement, not for precise measurement.
